Winter weather isn’t kind to our skin. Though the rest of our body is covered and protected, our faces bear the brunt of the cold weather every day. Mother nature has the best ingredients on offer to help us fight against the cruel weather, acne, from colds to cramps. As you switch up your personal care routine in preparation for the warmer months just around the corner, don’t forget to use these face masks.
For dry skin: Avocado and Honey Mask
This is a great mask for dry, peeling and scaling skin. The avocado and coconut oil provide replenishing moisture, while the honey helps to heal any raw areas.
1/2 a very ripe avocado
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
Blend the ingredients and apply on your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave it 15 minutes then rinse with cool water.
For oily skin: Strawberry lemon mask
Strawberries contain salicylic acid which is great for acne-prone skin, while lemon juice helps to tighten pores and remove dead skin cells.
1/4 cup mashed strawberries
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon yogurt
1 tablespoon honey
Mash all the ingredients together, but do not puree in a blender: you want this to be spreadable, not a liquid. Apply, leave it to 10 minutes and then rinse with cool water.
For all type-skin: Coffee mask
Trust, this mixture smells amazing – and the glow you’ll get after using it is even better.
1 heaping tbsp of leftover coffee grounds
2 tbsp of ground oats
1 heaping tbsp of creamed honey
1 to 2 generous shakes of ground cinnamon
Combine the antioxidant-rich coffee, exfoliating oats, blemish-fighting honey and skin brightening cinnamon. Apply on the skin (no rubbing!) avoiding eye area. Leave it 20 minutes then rinse with cool water.
